Welcome to the Khmer Silk Shop. I have created this site to market silk I import directly from women artisans in rural Cambodia to help support their livelihood. Some proceeds go directly back to them.
During decades of the 20th century, many traditional silks were lost. Cambodia silk weaving is now enjoying a gradual revival. Over hundreds of years, Cambodia has had a rich cultural influence on the Angkor Empire region and silk is the most popular choice for Khmer people and the royal families. These unique pieces, entirely hand woven by artisans on wooden looms, are examples of techniques, which have been handed down for centuries.
I am a Cambodian-American woman living in Massachusetts. I understand the struggles of women in rural Cambodia because I have been visiting them during several returns trips to my homeland. I have visited their villages and understand heir effort to survive and raise a family is a constant battle. This is why I want to help them, not as a charity, but to provide opportunities that enable them to improve their own livelihood.
Your purchase of these various silk products will support them. I like to thank for spreading the word about on line Khmer Silk Shop. I will provide support to individuals and families to achieve their goals and dreams. Unfortunately, you are giving the women whom weave the silk and create those crafts access to markets outside of their home country.
